Travertine Shadows

  • Pamukkale, Turkey.

The travertines in Pamukkale are quite high up on a mountain. Visitors must pay to hike up the travertines on bare feet. It’s not slippery because the calcium deposits provide a lot of grip, but it does get rough on your foot at certain points. It’s only slippery if you walk on into a travertine pool itself. This photo was taken at the very end of the hike, where the ancient city of Hierapolis lies (and has been renovated for tourism).
